A key member of the Food Service Team at the Westisle Composite High School Food Hub!

The Cook will be a key member of the Food Service Team at the Westisle Composite High School Food Hub. They will assist the Kitchen Manager in ordering, receiving and maintaining all requirements, including but not limited to food required for the program. Day-to-day activities will include meeting the kitchen's health and safety regulations and preparing and serving hot and cold meals prepared from scratch to students. In addition, the Cook will oversee food service operations when required or as needed by the Kitchen Manager. This  fast-paced, rewarding position provides nutritious meals to school-age children.

Responsibilities:

Assist Kitchen Manager with placing food orders according to program needs

  • Oversee food service operation in the absence of or as directed by the Kitchen Manager
  • Receive and store products and maintain records
  • Prepare hot and cold meals from scratch using standardized recipes
  • Keep temperature and sanitation logs and other necessary reports
  • Manage, track, and report inventory
  • Comply with health, hygiene, and sanitation regulation in the preparation, handling and serving of food
  • Serve meals to students and collect payment
  • And other duties as assigned

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Current Food safety certification
  • A Culinary Diploma and/or red seal certification is considered an asset

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years experience working as a cook in the food service industry, with experience in scratch cooking
  • Management/supervising experience is considered an asset

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in preparing large quantities of food from scratch
  • Ability to lift and manipulate heavy items
  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control
  • Knowledge of food service, including cooking and preparing a variety of foods, quality standards and presentation techniques
  • Adaptable to the needs of the students and the ability to be creative with food and menus for special dietary requirements
  • Ability to work well with limited supervision
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral
  • Enthusiastic and motivated team player
  • Valid driver's license & clean driver's abstract

The PEI School Food Program offers a competitive salary of $21.57 per hour (+6% vacation pay), an attractive benefits package (including health and dental), wellness spending, and an RRSP matching package after one-year anniversary. This will be a full-time, continued, part-year (10 months) position. Working months: September- June; Off July- August with continued benefits.

About PEI School Food Program Inc.

PEI School Food Program Inc. is a not-for-profit organization responsible for successfully developing and delivering the school lunch program in Public Schools Branch (PSB) and Commission de Langue Française (CSLF) schools. Our Culture & Benefits

The PEI School Food Program offers a competitive salary of $19.30- $21.57 per hour (+4% vacation pay). The standard work week is Monday to Friday. For this position, hours will be on an as needed basis with no set scheduled hours of employment. Contact for scheduling will be made as far in advance as possible although the employee may be contacted on the day they are being requested to work. Working months: September- June.
